About the Author

Gloria DeGaetano is the founder and CEO of The Parent Coaching Institute, (PCI), the nation’s first graduate-level parent coach training program offering parent coaching services to individuals, agencies, schools, and businesses. A nationally acclaimed educator, author, and speaker, Ms. DeGaetano has over 30 years experience working with children, teachers, and parents as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, district administrator, university instructor, and national consultant.

Ms. DeGaetano conducts trainings for school districts, social service agencies, and parent/community organizations throughout North America. She is a sought-after favorite for keynotes and workshops at major national and regional conferences because she shares her real-life experiences with wit and humor, to convey compassion and empathize with her audiences.

Ms. DeGaetano has written Screen Smarts: A Family Guide to Media Literacy (Houghton Mifflin, 1996); Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill: A Call to Action Against TV, Movie, and Video Game Violence (with Lt. Col. Dave Grossman) (Crown Books, 1999), and manuals for educators and child advocates, including Television and the Lives of Our Children and the Media Smarts Series for Students K-12 (Jalmar Press). An educational video producer, Gloria’s projects include TV and Video: Children at Risk; Media Literacy: An Impact Video for Youth, and Maximizing Your Child’s Potential: Healthy Brain Development in a Media Age, the first parent education video in the nation about the impact of screen machines on young brains. Her latest book is Parenting Well in a Media Age, Personhood Press.
